Watch for Saturn this Tuesday, June 19th!

If you head outside about an hour after sunset and look halfway from the southern horizon to the zenith, two bright objects will vie for your attention. The higher one is Saturn. It appears slightly brighter, at magnitude 0.6, than its neighbor and has a yellowish cast. Five degrees below the ringed planet resides blue-white Spica, the magnitude 1.0 luminary of the constellation Virgo. When viewed through a telescope, Saturn’s globe measures 18” across while the spectacular rings span 41” and tilt 13° to our line of sight.
